The course substitution process is no longer submitted through a form, but submitted online through POUNCE. Advisors can complete the process to submit a course substitution request on behalf of a student.
A course substitution is an exception and means the substituted course is allowed to take the place of a required course in the curriculum for the approved student only. This is not an equivalent course and therefore any change of major would require a new course substitution be processed by the new department. If a course should be allowed to take the place of a required course in the curriculum for all students, a curriculum revision may be needed via Curriculog.
Course Substitutions will be processed within 2-3 business days, unless additional approval is required. If additional approval is required, we will let you know upon initial review. Upon completion, you will receive a notification. Completed course substitutions can be reviewed on Jagtrax to ensure the exception is listed as expected on the student record.
Academic deans at Augusta University have the authority to substitute a course if it brings similar value to the program of study. Substitutions are distinctly separate from teach-out plans. Deans, department chairs, and program directors should review curriculum/plans of study regularly to ensure they reflect current offerings and scheduling practices to avoid excessive substitutions. USG guidelines do not allow the College to waive a required course, but from time to time, it may be necessary to substitute a course of equal value and classification to facilitate the completion of a student’s program of study. Students must still meet the total credit requirements for the academic program. Students who seek a required course substitution should contact their academic advisor, department chair, program director, or academic dean.
