The Arsenal

Manuscript Writing Guidelines

Research and scholarship take different forms in different disciplines. The Arsenal Editorial Board welcomes submissions that are 1) situated in a field, 2) make an original contribution, 3) clearly articulate the nature of that original contribution, and 4) convince the reading audience of the importance and interest of the research described.

The Arsenal offers two opportunities for publication in regular issues: scholarly research articles and feature articles. CURS is happy to consult with student authors and faculty mentors about submissions.

    • Scholarly Research Articles are 2,000-6,000 words. The word count does not include the title page, abstract (150-250 words), or reference list. Full scholarly research articles must describe completed research and scholarly activity that has a clear introduction, question/hypothesis, results/analysis, and conclusion.
    • Feature Articles are 1,000-2,000 words. The word count does not include the title page, abstract, or reference list. Full feature articles can include academic reflections on the undergraduate research experience.

The Arsenal requires all manuscripts and citations, regardless of type, to be in English and styled following APA 7th Edition, student paper. Please reference APA's Student Paper Setup Guide.

Manuscript Submission Guidelines

Students must obtain approval from their faculty mentor that the research can be submitted and published with The Arsenal. Manuscripts must be original and research studies need to be approved through IRB, IACUC, as appropriate. Students need to work with their faculty mentor in preparing and finalizing the manuscript for submission.

All manuscripts must be reviewed by the Center for Writing Excellence (CWE). Documentation will be required when students submit their manuscript for review.

All authors are required to have an ORCID iD created prior to submission.

All authors are required to provide evidence of ethical approval (from IRB or IACUC) for studies involving human or nonhuman animal subjects.

Documents required for submission:
