Augusta University follows the USG Board of Regents Policy 3.10 and USG Academic &
Student Affairs Handbook 2.19 concerning the sale and use of academic textbooks and
other instructional materials in a course. Faculty members interested in assigning
self-authored textbook(s) as required, or optional, materials for a course must receive
written permission from their department chair/unit head following input from the
respective college curriculum committee.
REQUEST USE OF SELF-AUTHORED TEXTBOOK OR MATERIALS
Review and Approval Process
- The faculty member shall: Send a written request and a copy of the textbook materials to the department chair/head
at least one semester prior to the proposed use of the material.
- The department chair/unit head shall: Forward the faculty request to the respective college curriculum committee for review.
- The college curriculum committee shall: Review the request and textbook materials to consider the appropriateness of the material
for the course in question, and any other relevant factors. The committee will forward
their recommendation to the department chair/unit head.
- The department chair/unit head shall: Review the committee’s recommendation and notify the faculty member of the committee’s
decision.
- Appeal: A faculty member may appeal the curriculum committee’s decision, in writing, to the
dean of the school/college. The dean’s decision of the appeal will be final.
- Additional notes: Documentation should be maintained by the respective college in accordance with USG
records retention policy.
