About the Program

The Master of Public Administration (MPA) at Augusta University is the preferred degree for professionals working in government and the nonprofit sector.

Accredited by the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration (NASPAA), the MPA degree is a versatile degree that allows students to advance their careers in numerous fields in the public sector, such as managing cybersecurity, economic development, criminal justice, city-county management, emergency management, and many others.

Many of our classes are scheduled at nights and on the weekends to better accommodate the working professionals in our program.  Students have many opportunities to work independently in the Augusta community through our robust and highly successful internship program. Our internship program has a 100% placement rate for students interested in working with nonprofits and/or governmental agencies

Some of our electives include: homeland security, emergency management, and grant writing.

Criminal Justice Track
The MPA program’s Criminal Justice Track helps students advance careers in law enforcement and/or social activism in the area of criminal justice. Our students are able to work with public managers in local law enforcements and nonprofits with a criminal justice mission.

Applicant Profile

Our students have undergraduate degrees in numerous fields and backgrounds including higher education administration, political science, recreation, social work and criminal justice.  Many of our applicants already hold a position in public service and are interested in advancing their careers as public managers in nonprofit organizations or governmental agencies while others are hoping to obtain a public sector job and make an impact in their community.

The MPA program at Augusta University is a "doable" degree that can be completed in two to three years.

Faculty

Our caring faculty, who are nationally respected experts, teach students practical skills in working with others to address the complex problems facing our government and society today.  They  include traditional academics, "pracademics" (academics with career experience in government or non- profit organizations), and working professionals to offer you hands-on experience.  Through small class sizes, students are able to connect and work on real-world projects including working with the North Augusta Forward and the Greater Augusta Arts Council on community engagement.
