- Applications and supporting materials received after the program deadline will only be considered on a space-available basis.
MS Psychology Admission Requirements
(Fall 2020 Entry Term)
GPAMinimum 3.0 cumulative GPA at the Baccalaureate level calculated on all undergraduate work attempted in which letter grades were awarded.
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university.
To be used to satisfy degree requirement, evaluation of foreign educational transcripts
must show degree(s) earned that are the U.S. equivalency of degree(s) required by
Official transcripts are required from all universities and colleges ever attended.
Only in the case of transcripts from international colleges/universities will an official
course-by-course transcript evaluation be accepted in lieu of an official transcript.
Official transcripts should be sent to Augusta University's Office of Academic Admissions.
To remain official, all transcripts must remain in the original, unopened, sealed and stamped/signed envelope from the Registrar's office of the issuing institution. Alternatively, Augusta University will accept official electronic transcripts from the registrar's office at your prior institution. Electronic transcripts should be directed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
An official, professional course-by-course evaluation based on official transcripts
and documents is required for all foreign educational transcripts and documents from
one of the following three credentials evaluation services: JosefSilny & Associates,
Inc., World Education Services (WES), Educational Credential Evaluators, Inc. (ECE).Silny
and WES are recommended. Official transcript evaluations based on unofficial transcripts,
documents or copies will not fulfill this requirement.
Transcript/Credential Evaluation of Foreign Transcripts
Recommendations (which include a reference form and letter of recommendation) from
three individuals are required. At least two must be academic references.
Letters of Recommendation
Recommendations can be submitted online only. Within the application, you will provide the names and current email addresses for three individuals you have asked to serve as your recommenders. At least two must be academic references. Once your application is submitted, each recommender will receive an email notification directing them to the online site where they can complete their recommendation. To change a recommender after the application has been submitted, log into your ApplyWeb (collegeNet) account and make updates. Status updates of your recommenders' submissions will be provided to you directly from ApplyWeb (CollegeNet).
Students accepted into our program have competitive scores on each of the GRE sections
we require, usually a combined score of 290 or above on the verbal and quantitative
sections, and an analytical score of 4 or higher.
Standardized Test Requirements
All scores must be official and submitted to Augusta University's Office of Academic Admissions directly from the Education Testing Service (ETS) and must be less than five years old. The institution code for submission of GRE scores to Augusta University is 5406. Please do not select a department code.
The GRE requirement may be waived for an applicant who has previously earned a doctorate degree from an accredited university in the United States.
The official Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) test scores are required
for applicants whose first language is not English. The TOEFL exam must be taken
within 2 years of the date of application. The Augusta University institution code
for submission of TOEFL scores is 5406. Please do not select a department code.
TOEFL Requirements (if applicable)
The minimum scores are:
- 213 computer-based
- 79 internet-based
- 550 paper-based (PBT; prior to October 2017)
- No minimum for the revised paper-delivered test (PDT; October 2017 and later)
Program Specific Requirements
Applicants must submit a statement of 750 words or less which expresses the basis
of your interest in enrolling in a master of psychology program at Augusta University.
Give attention to your immediate academic goals and to your future professional goals.
Your statement will be evaluated for its overall organization, clarity, and grammar.
The ability to write well is a prerequisite to adequate academic performance at the
graduate level. We encourage you to respond to the question on the application form
that asks about your successes and challenges.
Successful applicants for regular graduate status will, at a minimum, have satisfactorily
completed undergraduate courses in general psychology, quantitative methods, and psychology research
Promising applicants will be invited to interview.
Prerequisite Coursework - Clinical & Counseling Tracks
Students applying to the Clinical/Counseling track should have completed a course
in abnormal psychology.
Background Check - Required for Clinical Track Applicants ONLY
A clear or expunged criminal background record. Per the Augusta University Criminal Background Check Policy (Policy 4.1.7), final admission and enrollment for all graduate nursing, education and clinical psychology programs are conditional on the completion of a criminal background check with results deemed acceptable to the applicable college/program’s professional standards.
Failure to complete the required background check, provide information necessary to conduct the background check, or provide false or misleading information, may disqualify applicants from final admission and matriculation into the program and University.
Instructions for completing criminal background checks will be provided to applicants upon acceptance into these programs. Proof of Lawful Presence
In accordance with Board of Regents Policy 4.1.6, all applicants for admission to Augusta University are required to provide validation of lawful presence in the United States. Acceptance to Augusta University is conditional until lawful presence is verified. ALL applicants who are US Citizens must submit documentation that verifies his/her lawful presence in the United States at time of application to the Office of Admissions.
