If YES, the Jags Abroad Photo Contest is your chance to share your adventures with the AU community!

The 2024 Jags Abroad Photo Contest is open and accepting entries until January 31st: current students who went on a study abroad and away program in the past 2 years are eligible to submit a photo. Prizes are awarded for select photos, which are then featured in our office, marketing materials and social media accounts.

Contest Rules & Guidelines

  • One photo submission per entrant - must be current AU student
  • Entrant must have participated in a study abroad or study away program during the past 2 academic years. 
  • Photos must be original work taken during the study abroad/away program, either in the host country(s) or in other places traveled during the program.
  • No use or showcase of alcohol or drugs displayed in your photo.

 

Technical requirements

  • File format must be PNG or JPG. iPhone photos must be converted from HEIC. 
  • Submit original, high-resolution digital files — photos downloaded from social media do not meet display & print quality standards.

 

Photo Ethics

The photos submitted to this contest will be made viewable to the public and are not limited to just the AU campus, but could be shared online to the public, with the host institution, and/or the local community where a photo was taken. It is important to consider the following when selecting photos for this contest:

Terms and conditions

In submitting photos to the contest, you agree that AU Study Abroad may use them for promotional purposes without further permission, conditions or compensation. Contest organizers reserve the right to disqualify entries that do not conform to the stated guidelines and ethics.

Judging

Staff judging will take place starting after the submission deadline. People's Choice online voting will begin on Monday following the submission deadline, and will be open for 2 weeks. All winners will be announced in conjunction with Study Abroad Day in late February.

Selection criteria

  • Artistic merit (subject, composition, framing, etc.)
  • Technical merit (clarity, focus, lighting, etc.).
  • Representation of the learning/travel experience.
  • Sensitivity toward the host culture.

 

Awards

  • One first place photo will be selected, along with a second place photo. Both winners will receive a cash-value prize.
  • A People’s Choice winner will be selected from the finalists based on social media voting held in early February, and will also receive a cash-value prize.
  • Only one prize per entrant will be awarded. Honorable mention awards may be given.
  • Up to five selected photos (one per entrant) will be printed and displayed in the Study Abroad Office.
