The first deliverables of the AUOE CCCL project were the Online Course Design Characteristics and the Online Teaching Characteristics. The purpose was to establish a common framework of shared practices. They were created through a collaborative process by the AUOE Advisory Group which included faculty, instructional designers, academic leadership, and students over four months. Once drafted, AU faculty had the opportunity to provide feedback on each set which led to revisions and additions.
Grounded in research and shaped by online higher education teaching experiences, the development process ensured that the Characteristics are both evidence-based and practical.
Category names were created to create a structure for both communicating the characteristics and organizing them. Each characteristic identifies an observable, research-based practices for online teaching or online course design. Together, they create a shared language for what high-quality online education looks and sounds like at Augusta University.
The AUOE CCCL project is an ongoing work, and we appreciate feedback about this website and how to improve it. Please complete this form to provide us with your comments.
