The Physiology Program is one of the premier physiology programs in the nation. Here, students will study the biology of life, researching how the body functions and adapts in health and in disease. Students in the Department of Physiology gain a solid education in facts, concepts, and trends in this field, and are supported by extramural funding and multiple national awards and honors.

Our faculty are internationally recognized, and provide graduate students with the didactic training, problem solving, communication, and professional skills necessary to become future leaders in research and education.

Our research addresses diseases leading to significant human morbidity and mortality including hypertension, diabetes, obesity, and stroke. Physiology research is particularly strong in cardiovascular, renal, metabolic, and mitochondrial, cellular and neurophysiology areas.

Your skills will be developed through state-of-the-art translational laboratory research in a broad spectrum of experimental systems from molecules to whole body physiology and pathophysiology.

You will be trained as independent, creative, and productive scholars, and prepared for successful multifaceted careers in academia, non-profit organizations, government, industry and beyond.

Our environment is collaborative, innovative, supportive, and intellectually stimulating!
