Georgia has a disproportionate number of cancer diagnoses with poor outcomes but through its dedication to serving minority and underserved populations, the Georgia Cancer Center is the state leader making progress to change this statistic. We are committed to reaching rural populations to ensure world-class cancer screenings and treatment are available to all. Partnerships with local communities for increased access to education and screenings are particularly helpful for diagnosing cases in earlier, more easily treatable stages of the disease.
In the Spring 2021, the Georgia Cancer Center partnered with News Channel 6 (WJBF) to develop our Cause for the Cure campaign. Through our collaboration, we work with members of the News Channel 6 team to share important information about a variety of cancer topics throughout the year. It is a partnership providing helpful resources, prevention strategies, and cancer screening opportunities to help people living in the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) live a happier, healthier life while lowering their risk of developing cancer.

Through our extensive experience in treating cancer patients across the region we know seeing a cancer specialist as soon as possible will help reduce the anxiety of uncertainty. Anyone can come to us; we see patients of all ages, at any stage of cancer, even those that may suspect they have cancer or have a family history.
But, the best time to meet with care teams at the Georgia Cancer Center and Auguast University Health is before the cancer shows up. There are a number of cancer screening opportunities available including breast, cervical, colorectal, head and neck, lung, prostate and skin cancers. Here, we will connect you with the resources you need to schedule an appointment for your screening(s). Remember, it is important to talk with your primary care provider to discuss which cancer screening guidelines you meet as you grow older.
At Augusta University Health, we are proud to offer breast imaging services at two locations - the Breast Health Center, a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, and AU Health Imaging - the American College of Radiology accredits both our centers. And, through various signature and community events, cancer patients, their families, their friends and the general public have the opportunity to show support for patients currently living with cancer, as well as honoring the memories of those who bravely fought this terrible disease. Would you like to get involved in our events and help connect with cancer patients, their families, and your community? Learn more about Paceline and Unite in the Fight Against Cancer to see what volunteer opportunities are available and how you can take part in improving the lives and experiences of every patient who comes to the Georgia Cancer Center.
Paceline is an organization started in the Fall of 2018 to ignite the Augusta area and extend across the State of Georgia and beyond to invest in the fight against cancer. Every day, researchers and staff at the Georgia Cancer Center continue to reduce the burden of cancer in the state of Georgia and across the globe. The Paceline community has already funded four significant projects, fueling innovative research to improve cancer prevention, advance treatments, and move more breakthroughs to more patients. Together, we can cure cancer faster.
