Creativity, Discovery, Engagement
Mathematics can be both complex and creative! Students at Augusta University will develop critical thinking and analytical skills that are highly sought-after by employers. A degree in mathematics opens the door to a wide variety of interactive and exciting careers.
The Department of Mathematics teaches theoretical and applied aspects of mathematics, tapping into our students' love of learning.
Students in our program enjoy numbers and problem-solving. They learn fundamental math concepts and develop logical, numerical, and analytical skills needed to perform complex calculations and data analysis. AU's Mathematics Department provides a close-knit, collaborative environment where students can engage with faculty on a personal level.
Mathematics research allows students to hone their problem-solving skills, learn how to approach abstract concepts and employ creative thinking to analyze and solve academic and real-world problems. Students who decide to go on to our doctoral and master's programs will continue to advance their knowledge and develop their skills as mathematicians. They will be ready for careers in science and industry, technology, finance and risk analysis, teaching, and more.
Creativity, Discovery, Engagement
Mathematics continues to be a rapidly growing field of interest for students who can choose from a number of challenging math majors or can minor in math.
Graduates of the program will be well-equipped to use a variety of methods to construct mathematical models in order to solve real-world problems, especially those problems of an interdisciplinary nature.
Graduates who earn a bachelor’s degree in mathematics are logical thinkers and trained problem solvers. They have a broad background in a variety of mathematical techniques, and their program of study can emphasize either pure or applied mathematics.
Graduates who earn a bachelor’s degree in mathematics with a concentration in biostatistics are logical thinkers and trained problem solvers. They embark on careers as statisticians, epidemiologists, actuaries, and many other careers.
By earning Secondary Teacher Certification as well, they are trained in educational theory and pedagogical techniques, and are well prepared for a career as a high school mathematics teacher.
The IMAT program is a high impact, high quality, program designed to generate student desire to attain 6-12 teacher certification and to recruit highly qualified undergraduate STEM majors for the teaching profession.
Students enroll in the Mathematics B.S. program with a Concentration in Biostatistics. During their junior year, they apply for entrance into the M.S. program in Biostatistics, and begin the M.S. program in their fourth year.
A minor in mathematics is a great complement to any major, particularly majors in the sciences or business. A minor in mathematics trains students in challenging problem solving and logical thought processes, skills valuable to any employer.

Advising
The goal of advising is to help students select an academic program that will best meet the student's needs, interests, and career plans.
S-STEM Scholarships
Up to $8,000 per year are available to assist academically talented Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics students.
AU students who have completed introductory courses in their major (BIOL 1108, CHEM 1212, MATH 2012, or PHYS 2212) with an A or B, are in good academic standing (minimum GPA of 3.0) and meet financial eligibility requirements are eligible to receive scholarships for up to $8,000 per academic year. Scholarships can be renewed for up to two years if eligibility is maintained.
The College of Science and Mathematics provides students with strong foundations in the sciences as well as preparation for careers, citizenship, and a life-long love of learning. We are committed to providing experiences promoting scientific inquiry and discovery and dedicated to creating opportunities for intellectual growth and community involvement.
