The College of Nursing sponsors two annual health service events providing health screenings and referrals for farm workers of Costa-Layman Farms.

These health services provide valuable health information for the farmworkers as well as hands-on opportunities for education and research for faculty and students. The Health Fair has become an interdisciplinary event that spans over seven different disciplines. Local agencies and services are also involved in providing these services.

The program began with the vision of College of Nursing faculty, students, and alumni, but has evolved into a large and growing interdisciplinary effort, with volunteers from across the institution coordinating to provide care. At Costa Layman, students refine their skills outside the classroom in the real-world setting of the farm, while the university plays an important role in community-based disease prevention.
