Block 10 Objectives and Assessments

Obtain RUSH Images 

  • Save loops of your images to review with a faculty member. You do not need to label any structures!
  • Fill out the RUSH Block 10 Image Debrief Qualtrics form with faculty as you review your images

US Debrief Feedback

1:45 - 3:15PM

Telemedicine Encounters (1:45 or 2:30 start) 

  • M2 students will be conducting the visit as M1 students observe
  • Complete the SOAP Presentation Debrief Qualtrics form with a faculty member during your debrief session

  • M1 students will be obtaining their required images and will be practicing sending images to themselves
  •  
  • M2 students will be assisting their mentees with the above 
  • M2 students should complete the Block 1 Image Debrief Qualtrics Form while reviewing images with their mentee 
  • M1 Students should complete their Willingness Survey to indicate whether they consent to being scanned during future PCL Clinical Experiences

Telemedicine Patient Encounter

  • EMR Training: 
    • Review EMR Training Videos: If you have not completed a medicine history reconciliation or updated social history of your patient, please attempt to do so during this block.
  • NOTE: Remember you must get a 2.5 or 3 on your documentation feedback for block 9 or 10. If you do not you will do remediation during October. Reviewing the below should set you up for success to receive a 2.5 or 3 on your feedback.  
    • Review Note Template Documentation Video (recommend playing at 1.5-2X speed)
    • Review PCL Note Template with minor additions to assist with chronic disease/ primary care note documentation
    • Review SP Note from Block 7 NAFLD Example

PREWORK REQUIRED

  • Watch Mentoring Video
  • Review your patient's medical history and prepare for your telemedicine patient encounter
  • Recommend choosing a neurological issue to review (Example: Migraines, Neuropathy, CVA history, seizures)
  • Review Telehealth Physical Exams: Neurological - Old Dominion University (Focus on "Cranial Nerve Exam" for Block 9 and review the "Comprehensive Neuro Telehealth Exam" for Block 10)

POSTWORK

  • Review mentee(s) note and offered feedback 
  • Complete your patient's note (may use M1s note and edit) by 5:00 PM 48 hours after the day after your patient encounter and sign/submit your note to Clinical Experience Preceptor for signature and PCL preceptor as a reviewer. If you have an SP encounter, send note to my Clinical Experience Preceptor for signature and PCL preceptor as a reviewer. If you have and SP encounter, send note to my Clinical Experience Preceptor and PCL preceptor in email for feedback. If this is not completed on time, you will lose professionalism points.
  • Once your note is sent to your Clinical Experience  Preceptor, fill out Staff Documentation Qualtrics Survey to receive documentation feedback.
  • Send feedback received from the Qualtrics survey to my Mentee(s) to review. If you had an SP encounter include your edited note in the email for them to review.
  • Complete the Class of 2026 PCL Clinical Experience Survey by MONDAY at 12:00 PM following your session week.

PREWORK

  •  Review RUSH: Ultrasound for the Undifferentiated Hypotensive Patient: Dr. Richard Gordon
  • Review Review of cardiac ultrasound windows: Dr. Dan Kaminstein
  • Review Long axis view of the lung with phased array probe
  •  Review Block 10 RUSH Example slides
    • For Block 10, you will be practicing the first half of the RUSH exam including: PSLA, Apical 4-chamber heart, Subcostal 4-chamber heart, IVC long at Right Atrium, and Lung. You will submit these 5 images reviewed by PCL faculty during Block 10.
    • You will also be assisting Class of 2027 students who will be completing the Block 1 Ultrasound Learning Activity. Please review this prior to your session as well as the Block 1 Ultrasound Learning Activity Example Images. You and your M1 mentee will be scanning a gel phantom that includes 2 simulated vessels with the Linear transducer.
