Block 2

Clinical Experience Block 2 

The PCL Clinical Experience includes: Telemedicine Patient Encounter Session, Clinical Procedures Session, and Ultrasound Session.

BLOCK 2 OBJECTIVES AND ASSESSMENTS

1:00 - 2:40PM

Telemedicine Encounters (1:00 or 1:45 start) 

  • M1 students will be conducting the visit as M2 students observe
  • Complete the SOAP Presentation Debrief Qualtrics form with a faculty member during your debrief session
  • Those finishing visits early can start performing vital signs.
  • Review consent

 Clinical Procedures (1:00 or 1:50 start) 

  • M2 Students will be reviewing vital sign assessment with their M1 mentees
  • Fill out the provided vitals sheet while discussing correct methods, possible errors, and masked vs white coat hypertension 

2:40 - 3:15PM

M1 Ultrasound Time 

  • M1 students will be scanning the shoulder and the brachial artery & vein
  • Students must send themselves a video of brachial vein compression with their name on it to submit to D2L for their post quiz
  • REMINDER: Everyone needs to consent for educational scanning

3:15 - 4:00PM

M2 Ultrasound Time 

  • RUSH exam (FAST + AAA)
  • REMINDER: Everyone needs to consent for educational scanning

 

Telemedicine - Patient Encounter

REFRESH

  • Review EMR overview training from Week 3 of PCL.
  • Review PCL Note Template with additions specific for primary care and chronic conditions and Example Note that follows this template

PREWORK

  • Review your patient's medical history and prepare for your telehealth visit
  • Ask M2 for last patient note in [SECURE] email and recommendations on what to cover
  • Once EPIC access is obtained, use your access to look up patient information
  • Watch the following videos on a telemedicine musculoskeletal exam. For full document, reference optional material below:

  • OPTIONAL  
    • Knee Exam Video

POSTWORK

  • Recorder must complete your patient's note by 5:00 PM the day after your patient encounter and send your note in a [SECURE] email to your M2 mentor and PCL Preceptor 
  • Interviewer team will review feedback on final note from recorders team
  • All complete the Class of 2028 PCL Clinical Experience Post-Visit Survey 
  • Watch the SOAP presentation video
  • If the above is not completed on time you willlose professionalism points.

  • Shoulder Ultrasound Overview Example Images
    • Review workflow of uploading image on tablet and sending it to yourself via your email (last page on example image PowerPoint)
    • You will be required to submit a video of the brachial artery and vein with compression on your post quiz
