Master of Science InMedical illustration

  • The Medical Illustration program’s strengths are in storytelling, surgical and anatomical illustration, and animation techniques..
  • Students take graduate-level science courses, such as gross anatomy and cell biology, in addition to studying digital media and illustration techniques. An illustrator's work, unlike a photograph, must often show what cannot be directly observed in order to best communicate an idea or complex concept. Therefore, an understanding of basic medical subjects is essential.
  • Faculty are actively involved in the profession and are leaders in their field. They come from wide variety of fields and specialties including: medical publishing, professional animation, editorial illustration, business management, and Anaplastology (facial and somatic prosthetics)
  • Alumni are very engaged with the current students in the Medical Illustration program. Many of our alumni run their own companies. In 2015, 17 of our alumni (or their companies) won awards from the 70th Annual Conference Association of Medical Illustrators. The alumni that won were graduates between 1989 and 2014.
