Assistant Vice President for Protocol and Special Events
Suzanne Tatum currently serves as the Chief of Protocol for Augusta University and manages the Office of Protocol & Special Events. Suzanne and her team are responsible for presidential events, as well as external affairs events both on and off campus. She is the former Assistant Vice President for External Affairs and Chief Protocol Officer at Georgia Southern University. Suzanne currently represents Augusta University in the Protocol and Diplomacy International, Protocol Officers Association (PDI-POA). Prior to her work in higher education, Tatum served as a manager at CBS News in the News Operations Division. After three years in New York, she moved to Georgia to begin working as Statesboro Publishing’s Online Marketing Director for the Statesboro Herald and Host of Studio Statesboro, the company’s daily news show. She is a graduate of the 2017 Class of Leadership Georgia, 2009 Class of Leadership Bulloch County and has served as the 2016 PDI-POA Education Forum Volunteer Chair. Suzanne serves on the board of the AU Wesley Foundation, the University System of Georgia’s Executive Planning Committee for the Regents Gala, along with many other committees throughout campus. Tatum earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Colorado and is a 2013 graduate of the Protocol School of Washington’s Protocol Officer Training. She brought her experience and training to Augusta University in January 2016 and continues to enjoy educating students, faculty, staff and senior leadership regarding protocol.
Lead Special Events Coordinator
Gia R. Johnson has more than 20 years of experience working with events in academic settings at Augusta University and USC Aiken. Prior to working in higher education, Gia worked with the South Carolina Department of Social Services managing a variety of events, including press conferences and statewide celebrations for major announcements and initiatives. Here at AU Gia is known for her strong organizational skills, creativity and her ability to execute her client’s vision by listening to their needs and weaving them together with Augusta University’s event standards and protocols. Gia holds a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of South Carolina and a master’s degree in Higher Education Administration from Georgia Southern. She is a graduate of Leadership Columbia County Class of 2017 and is a recipient of Augusta University’s Employee Advisory Council’s 2018 Service Excellence Award.
Special Events Coordinator
Tammy L. Berry has been with Augusta University for over 29 years. Tammy worked 17 years in the Office of Alumni Affairs, having served as an alumni affairs coordinator and director of alumni affairs. In 2004, Tammy began working in the Office of Special Events as director of special events. During the years, Tammy has been involved in the production of more than 1,500 events - homecoming weekends, class reunions, regional alumni receptions, president's donor recognition dinners, donor salons, alumni meetings, committee meetings, corporate partnership events, golf tournaments, black-tie dinners, celebratory receptions, four inauguration celebrations, campus visits with alumni, regents, biotech meetings, groundbreaking ceremonies, and ribbon-cutting events. Tammy holds an associate in arts degree from East Georgia College.
Special Events Coordinator
Though Ingrid Tutt has more than 12 years events and hospitality experience, she is the newest member of the Special Events production team. Before coming to the department, Ingrid managed the AU Concierge-Greeter Services. Her passion for Augusta and the Medical Center bring a unique perspective to the team. Ingrid has become known for her creative and innovative approach to the events she produces. Meetings, symposiums, Salons or Galas, Ingrid uses her ability to gauge her client’s needs and manifest them into events with WOW. Ingrid specializes in etiquette, protocol and hospitality. Ingrid holds a Master’s in Education with a concentration in Adult Education and Training.
Lindsey Crosby joined the Protocol and Special Events team in 2016 from the Office of Classroom and Event Scheduling. She has a Bachelor of Science Degree from Toccoa Falls College.
