The Faculty Senate (AUFS) is an essential component of University shared governance. It is composed of Senators elected by each college, who represent the faculty of their college. Senators keep in touch with their constituent faculty so they can truly represent them at Senate meetings and keep them informed.

Senate members are called on to:

  • Consider and make recommendations regarding all matters of general university interest, including matters referred to it by the president or Board of Trustees
  • Review all new policies and changes to existing policies
  • Submit recommendations to the president on any matter affecting the interests of the university
  • Make recommendations regarding honorary degree recipients
  • Attend monthly meetings during the academic year in which committees address issues related to specific topics
