Welcome to the Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program Website!

Here at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University, we place a premium on all of the qualities and values one would expect from a leading women’s health program. Below, we would also like to share some of the qualities we value most in our residents and our residency program.

Diversity

We take great pride in our department’s commitment to selecting residents from all walks of life. Our patients come from diverse backgrounds, and we believe it is important to train residents who reflect the communities we serve.

While we proudly recruit residents from Georgia — many of whom we hope will remain here to practice — we also welcome residents from across the country and around the world. We hope that every resident will take the knowledge and experience gained here and use it to serve their respective communities. In a world that is becoming smaller and increasingly interconnected, we want our residents to carry what they learn at Augusta University near and far, making a lasting difference in the health of their local communities and the world.

Our Augusta University Graduate Medical Education (GME) program is dedicated to the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Over the past several years, we have added to our organizational structure and launched initiatives focused on these important principles.

Efficiency

Let's face it: residency is hard work! That being said, we don't think residency should simply entail a lot of busywork. We strive to provide our residents with an efficient work environment so that their time spent in the hospital is used wisely. Ancillary staff are employed in every area possible to help make this efficiency a reality for our residents.

An electronic medical record not only benefits the patient, but we believe it benefits the resident as well. Virtually everything can be done for any patient from anywhere on campus, and even from a personal computer. Consistent with sound educational theory, we believe that learners should not be overwhelmed by peripheral tasks, but instead should have the time and opportunity to focus on what matters most: learning.

Education

In many ways, it goes without saying that we value education. Still, we would be remiss if we did not emphasize that education is a primary value of our program. As medical technology continues to advance, we recognize the importance of continually seeking new and innovative ways to educate and train our residents. For example, we built our own departmental minimally invasive surgery simulation center to provide residents with meaningful opportunities to develop their skills in a supportive learning environment.

As residency training requirements continue to evolve, we strive to remain at the forefront of resident education. We are committed to meeting and whenever possible, exceeding CREOG and ACGME requirements and recommendations for resident training, while providing an educational experience that prepares our residents to become excellent physicians.

Teamwork

Throughout the day, and even after the work is done, we want our students, residents, fellows, and faculty to work well together and support one another. Our residents routinely switch calls or vacation weeks to accommodate each other, and they frequently spend time together socially after their day at the hospital is over. We are very proud of the kind of residents we attract and select, and we believe this contributes greatly to how well everyone works together and genuinely enjoys spending time together.
