The Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University is a leader in resident education, committed to providing an environment where residents can develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence to excel in the practice of obstetrics and gynecology.

Our program prepares graduates to practice independently, serve as expert consultants within their medical communities, and pursue subspecialty training or careers in academic medicine. Throughout their training, our residents also serve as teachers and role models for the physicians of the future. At the heart of our program is a commitment to excellence, education, and compassion.

The Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program at Augusta University is a progressive, four-year program that accepts six residents each year. All first-year (PGY-1) appointments are made through the National Resident Matching Program.

Our residency program is designed to provide residents with a strong educational foundation, comprehensive clinical training, and the skills needed to become confident, compassionate physicians.

Our goals are to:

  • Provide a comprehensive educational experience in Obstetrics and Gynecology and related disciplines.
  • Prepare residents for successful board certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
  • Prepare residents to serve as primary care providers for women and as consultants to non-obstetric and gynecologic health care providers.
  • Develop residents into effective team leaders in the delivery of health care.
  • Provide an academic and clinical environment that allows residents to explore and pursue careers in clinical medicine, academic medicine, or subspecialty practice.

The residency program is conducted primarily at Wellstar MCG Health, affliated with the Medical College of Georgia and Augusta University.

More than 2,000 deliveries occur at the main hospital each year, along with a large number and wide variety of gynecologic procedures and surgeries. In addition to a large group of general obstetricians and gynecologists, Augusta University/Wellstar MCG Health is home to specialists in all major subspecialties, including Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Gynecologic Oncology, Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery, and Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. This breadth of expertise provides our residents with a comprehensive clinical and educational experience across the full spectrum of obstetrics and gynecology.
