Augusta University’s Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry provides students with the solid foundations they need to develop analytical and problem-solving skills that are universally sought-after by graduate and professional schools. These skills are essential to staying pertinent in most science and engineering careers. Pathways offered at AU include biochemistry, forensic science, medicinal chemistry, nuclear science, teacher education.

Programs Designed for Impact
Develop the analytical and problem-solving skills that are universally sought after by graduate and professional schools as well as by employers.
BS in Chemistry
Put your math and science skills to use and get you into a graduate program to solidify the career path you want. Include concentrations in: Biochemistry, Forensic Science, Medicinal Chemistry, Nuclear Science, Teach Education.
Nuclear Science
This concentration of the Chemistry, BS will prepare graduates to enter nuclear power plant specific training or attend graduate school for nuclear chemistry or nuclear engineering.
Minor in Chemistry
There is also sufficient flexibility to explore a classic or specialized field of chemistry within the minor. If you continue in chemistry, only a few classes beyond the minor are needed to earn a BA in Chemistry as a second degree.
MS in Biomolecular Science
Gain interdisciplinary knowledge of the biochemical systems and responses to bioactive compounds at a physiological, cellular, and molecular level.
Dual- Degree Pharmacy (3+4 Program)
An accelerated dual-degree program with the University of Georgia, designed to help Chemistry majors at Augusta Univeristy transfer into UGA's Doctor of Pharmacy program. Courses will cover requirements for a BS in Chemistry and UGA's Pharmacy prerequisites.

Chemistry Research
Augusta University research in chemistry covers a range of areas with an emphasis on biomolecular compounds and drug discovery. The department houses the Chemical and Biomolecular Analysis Facility as a core resource to facilitate research with major instrumentation that includes NMR, ICP, CD, and XRD spectroscopy among others. Below are some research ares our faculty is pursing:
Biochemistry - biological chemistry studies the compounds and transformations that are associated with living organisms.
Computational Chemistry - examines the chemical design of potential pharmaceutical agents.
Medicinal Chemistry - study of compounds of with pharmaceutical activity comprises medicinal chemistry.
