Established in 1973, the three-year Family and Community Medicine Residency Program provides an array of unique learning experiences, including rotations at Wellstar-MCG, the area’s only academic medical center and the Children’s Hospital of Georgia, one of Georgia’s two pediatric medical centers. The centerpiece of our program is our Family Medicine Clinic, located in the heart of Augusta, Georgia.
The program provides opportunities to train in diverse community settings including rural and suburban areas. We are committed to providing care to vulnerable local, regional, and global populations in partnership with programs in the Medical College of Georgia Departments of Emergency Medicine, Hospitalist Services, and Obstetrics and Gynecology.
In addition to teaching full-spectrum outpatient care, the program also offers training in point-of-care ultrasound, integrative and lifestyle medicine, and geriatrics. Our sports medicine training is supported by an accredited fellowship and includes local high school and collegiate sports coverage. We also have an ACGME accredited Osteopathic Medicine program.
Family and Community Medicine residents have access to all the resources of the Medical College of Georgia which include a state-of-the-art simulation center and ultrasound center of excellence. Residents also provide care at the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home. All of these opportunities give our residents a diverse educational experience.
