Primary Care Rural Health Fellowship

The Department of Family Medicine in the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University is starting a non-ACGME accredited Primary Care Rural Medicine (PCRM) Fellowship July 1, 2022.

Program Overview

 

The Fellowship will focus on building specialized skills needed to successfully practice in rural communities including:

  • navigating unique rural community challenges
  • recognizing opportunities for community advocacy
  • honing clinical skills

The PCRM Fellow will build a unique skillset including specialized clinical skills (use of ultrasound, advanced dermatology, sports medicine, etc.) as well as behavioral and community health education specific to the areas being served.

PCRH Fellows receive many benefits including:

an InTouch medical device in use

  • Phillips ultraportable ultrasound device for use during fellowship
  • Tablet computer with software for use during fellowship
  • Research/QI rotation
  • Exposure to the following advanced clinical experiences:
    • Point of Care Ultrasound
    • Sports Medicine
    • Dermatology
    • Behavior Health/ Addiction Medicine
    • Population Health
    • Quality Improvement/Research
    • Educational teaching
  • Clinical experience in underserved community free clinic
  • Continuity clinical experience in a rural hospital
  • Function as a faculty attending in the MCG/AU FM Clinic
  • MCG Faculty Appointment
  • Experience with the local Health Department
  • Paid travel to conferences, with presentations
  • Memberships to GAFP and AAFP
  • Fellow competitive salary

Linda Bartlett, MD

Dr. Linda Bartlett is a family physician with extensive clinical experience in both pediatric and adult care, with a special focus on women’s health. Her distinguished career includes work with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), UNICEF, and a faculty appointment at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Dr. Bartlett’s work has taken her to more than 40 countries. Her research centers on primary and maternity care, employing both quantitative and qualitative methods to assess quality of care, investigate reasons for untreated anemia in pregnant women, and evaluate maternal and infant morbidity, mortality, and healthcare access through large population-based household surveys.

Academically, Dr. Bartlett has taught graduate-level courses on maternal and newborn health in low-resource settings, scientific writing, and Human Subjects Research (HSR) ethical practices. She has also mentored numerous Master’s and Doctoral students. Her recent work includes a systematic literature review on emergency triage in low-resource domestic and international settings and collaborating on the development of an mHealth tool to enhance the quality of care. Outside of her professional life, Dr. Bartlett enjoys personal fitness through Pilates and daily walks on the beach with her dog, Blue. She is also passionate about fiber art—including weaving, knitting, leatherwork and silk felting.
