Assurance in Medicine (AIM) Program

About the Pathway

The Medical College of Georgia is the state's flagship medical school and is committed to educating physicians who lead Georgia and the world toward better health by addressing Georgia’s physician shortage and improving access to care in underserved areas.

Prospective students from underserved areas who demonstrate a passion for healthcare often face challenges accessing the resources and support needed to succeed and matriculate to medical school.  To combat the physician shortage and alleviate the challenges for students, the Assurance in Medicine (AIM) Program was developed.  This program will provide academic and professional competency development resources to help students succeed in the healthcare field.  The program has partnered with seven (7) participating undergraduate institutions, strategically located in close proximity to MCG’s regional clinical campuses, for students to gain clinical exposure in a healthcare setting.

I did not know I needed the AIM program until it was presented to me. With this life-changing opportunity, I experienced guidance, mentorship, and a sense of community I could not have imagined otherwise. Through tutoring sessions, medical school simulations, intensive MCAT preparation, and even interactive seminars with various professionals and physicians, I gained invaluable academic insight into my once-daunting goal of becoming a medical doctor. Because of AIM, I have gained meaningful friendships, medical school mentors, and even the experience of going to a Green Jackets game! Beyond the academics, AIM deepened my desire to serve my community through our service-learning opportunities, and for this I am truly grateful. The promised longitudinal support has been dutifully kept, and I can only hope to later become a reflection of what the MCG community has been to me through the provision of AIM: a true help.

The AIM program has been instrumental in supporting me on my journey to medical school and providing a level playing field. Everyone I have encountered who is responsible for the program has only displayed kindness and positivity. Whether interacting with admission staff or medical students, I received invaluable insight into the complexities of medical school. The summer internship experience was a fun, memorable, and informative experience that I will never forget. One experience that I recall fondly was when we shadowed the day in the life of a second-year medical student. This event only further solidified my desire to become a physician. The amount of academic support that I received over the summer internship is unparalleled. From receiving professional expert advice on the MCAT to having access to a seemingly unlimited number of resources and medical students to ask questions, the resources and connections I have received in just my short time in the program are astonishing. I can honestly say that the people responsible for this program truly care about your success and are committed to helping you reach your goal of matriculating into medical school.
