The Library is an integral unit of the Augusta University. Priority customers are the students, faculty and staff of the Augusta University. Other customers include students, faculty and staff of the University System of Georgia, as well as Georgia's health professionals, patients and their families and general citizens.

Purpose Statements for Library Departments

 

Business Services

Provides effective and efficient administrative support to the Director of Libraries, library faculty and staff. The department is responsible for managing fiscal planning and implementation; facilitating personnel procedures; coordinating facilities and building security; and gathering and reporting statistics.

Content Management

Acquires, organizes and provides access to traditional and emerging forms of scholarly communications and content, including print and electronic resources in a cost effective manner. The department plans for the acquisition and implementation of new organizational methods, systems and technologies and assures bibliographic integrity of collections data of the Library's integrated system. The department manages information organization, storage, retrieval and transfer to include cataloging, serials, collection assessment and development, interlibrary loan and document delivery, and maintenance and development of the Library's web presence. The department also supports the statewide GIL project through content coordination of one of the state's four server sites.

Research and Education Services

Assumes leadership in providing quality user-based support of the information needs of the Augusta University community. This department provides a user-centered single point of contact for Library services at the Library Information Center and provides educational services for information literacy, lifelong learning skills, curriculum, clinical and research support.

Historical Collections & Archives

Committed to acquiring, organizing, preserving and making available historical collections related to the Augusta University and the history of the health sciences. This unit is dedicated to delivering quality service in support of historical and institutional research to Augusta University affiliates, health science professionals and the community.
