Pamplin faculty engage in a wide variety of Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity (RSCA).
Our work is as diverse as we are and includes lab experiments, musical compositions and performances, statistical analysis of surveys, creative writing, archival data collection, art installations, literary criticism, ethnographic field research, archaeological digs, and more. In each of these, our faculty use state of the art techniques and equipment to discover scientifically sound research findings, develop compelling scholarship, and create the highest caliber of artistic design.
Pamplin faculty have access to multiple forms of support to engage in cutting edge RSCA, in whatever form that takes within their discipline.
The Pamplin Summer RSCA Program provides small internal grant funding for Pamplin faculty to focus on a specific RSCA project during the summer. This funding enables the purchase of needed materials, travel to collect data, participant recruitment, and/or time to complete the project, among other activities.
The Pamplin Professional Impact Fund (PPIF) provides funding for Pamplin faculty to facilitate the dissemination of RSCA through conference presentations, performances, and exhibitions, as well as to create, conduct, or prepare of RSCA.
Each year Pamplin’s Center for Social Science Research selects faculty within Pamplin who are working on specific social science projects to participate in our Fellowship Programs. Both the CSSR Fellowship Program and the Grant Mentorship Program provide time and structured mentorship for faculty to pursue a specific research project.
The Summerville Interdisciplinary Research Office provides support for developing and managing grant proposals. In addition to contacting the SIRO directly, please also contact Associate Dean Dustin Avent-Holt in the Pamplin Dean’s office to ensure you have the grant development support you need.
Each year Pamplin funds one Pamplin Humanities Fellowship for faculty within Pamplin who are working on a specific humanities project. Pamplin Humanities Fellows receive time and structured mentorship, in addition to resources from the National Humanities Center, to pursue their project.
Pamplin’s Center for Social Science Research is a space for intellectual exchange among faculty and students interested in using social science to advance the common good.
