Community-Based Clerkship Experience
Community-based clinical partnerships are clinical sites that have carefully selected many qualifications including having one or more experienced dental practitioners willing to provide oversight, guidance and mentorship.
In November 2020, DCG students, faculty and staff participated in the Augusta University Day of Service adding to the total of over 1,100 members of the AU family serving that day.
Tooth Talks hosted by DCG's American Association for Public Health Dentistry
AAPHD's Tooth Talks offer students an opportunity to hear from oral health professionals from various backgrounds and learn more about the many facets of public health dentistry. Previous guest speakers include Dr. Laquanis Hooker, DCG adjunct faculty and dental director at Medical Associates Plus in Augusta, GA, and Dr. Adam Barefoot, Georgia Department of Public Health oral health director.
Give Kids a Smile Day
This annual event, spearheaded by our Department of Pediatric Dentistry, provides Augusta-area children with free dental cleanings, sealants, fluoride treatments, dental education and some restorative treatment. The event happens in coordination with the American Dental Association, local dental professionals and DCG faculty, staff and students.
The Emergency Clinic
Staffed by senior dental students, with faculty oversight, care is offered to patients in need of immediate treatment. Patients receive excellent care while senior students gain 'real-world' experience as they prepare to return to their communities.
The Barnyard Flea Markets
Students and faculty provide on-site, free dental screenings to the local community.
