John F. Beard Award for Compassionate Care

This award is intended to honor the highest ideals and achievements in compassionate health care service at Augusta University, to foster and encourage habits of compassion and kindness, and to identify an individual unselfishly devoted to patients who demonstrates compassion in the Augusta University community. Students in all Augusta University colleges are eligible.

Raymond C. Bard Scholarship

Dr. Raymond C. Bard was the founding Dean of the College of Allied Health Sciences from 1968-88. This award was established in his memory for his valuable contributions, vision, and philosophy for the college that continues to this day. The award is presented annually to a student entering their final year of study who demonstrates academic success, leadership, and service to university, profession, community, and state. Nominations are submitted by faculty to their departmental representative for Alpha Eta.

Biagio J. Vericella Scholarship

This award was created in honor of Dr. Biagio J. Vericella. Dr. Vericella came to Augusta University in 1973 and served as Associate Dean from 1976 until he became Dean in 1988. The allied health programs continued to gain an excellent national reputation under his tenure until his retirement in 2001. The award is presented annually to a graduating student who epitomizes the qualities of compassion, optimism, mentoring, leadership and service within the college, the university and the community. Nominations are submitted by faculty to their Alpha Eta departmental representative.

Annual scholarship provided to an undergraduate or graduate student or students enrolled in the College of Allied Health Sciences. Scholarship to be awarded to students pursuing a degree in Respiratory Therapy, Occupation Therapy, or Physical Therapy. Selection will be based on merit and/or financial need.

Art Hardy Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded in memory of Art Hardy, RRT, a 1991 graduate of the Respiratory Therapy program, who died in a plane crash in 1993 while transporting a critically ill infant. Throughout his life, and especially as a neonatal respiratory therapist, Art gave selflessly of himself to help others. This award is presented to a respiratory therapy student, who demonstrates the following qualities: academic excellence, leadership, professionalism, and public service

Carmen Reyes Scholarship

This scholarship was established in memory of Carmen Reyes, a 1998 graduate of the baccalaureate health information administration program. The scholarship is awarded to students enrolled in the baccalaureate health information administration program based on academic achievement and financial need. The recipient is selected by faculty in the Health Information Administration program.

Charlotte Johnston Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established in memory of Dr. Charlotte Johnston, former department chair of Health Information Administration. The scholarship is awarded to a rising senior health information administration student based on academic achievement and financial need. The recipient is selected by the faculty of the Health Information Administration program.

Educational Multimedia Excellence Award 

Available for: Medical Illustration

This award is presented to recognize a medical illustration student's Master's Project at Graduate Research Day. The recipient is nominated and selected by the faculty of the Department of Medical Illustration.

Jessie O. Brown Scholarship

Available for: Dental Hygiene

In honor of Associate Professor Emerita, and MCG alumni, Jessie O. Brown, who retired after 30 years of service. This award recognizes a senior student who demonstrates outstanding potential as a dental hygiene care provider with emphasis placed on quality of care and ethical responsibilities.

Sigma Phi Alpha Scholarship

Sigma Phi Alpha is the National Honor Society for the Dental Hygiene profession. This scholarship is awarded to students who exhibit exemplary clinical skills, professionalism, and possess the ability to motivate their patients to maintain good oral health.

Thomas P. Hinman Dental Society Scholarship 

Available for: Dental Hygiene


The Hinman Dental Society is a non-profit organization comprised of more than 750 member dentists primarily located in metropolitan Atlanta, Georgia. Proceeds from their annual meeting make it possible to support student education throughout the Southeast. Students selected for scholarships are named “Hinman Scholars” and recognized during a luncheon at the Hinman Dental Meeting in March.

This senior demonstrates superior qualities of clinical and professional practice in Nuclear Medicine Technology in the spirit of dedication to the profession and patient care emulated by Antonio Molini.

Bella J. May Achievement Award

Bella J. May, the founding Chairperson of the Department of Physical Therapy, established this achievement award to honor the student who shows the greatest potential of becoming a caring, competent, creative and contributing member of the profession of physical therapy.

Department Chair's Award 

Available for: Physical Therapy


This award is given to acknowledge and honor a student who has demonstrated excellent leadership and provided outstanding service to the class, program and college. Contributions should be of exceptional value to the Department of Physical Therapy. Applicants will be judged on the basis of the results of an individual’s service, not merely the duration or continuity of that service. Service may be in the realm of any area(s) of the program, including, but not limited to, patient care activities and service to community, Augusta University and professional organizations.

Dr. Tyler Wallace Physical Therapy Scholars Award

The scholarship honors Tyler’s memory and recognizes physical therapy students demonstrating the same ambition, integrity, and grace admired of Tyler. The scholarship shall be awarded at graduation. An additional scholarship may be awarded at the Department Chair’s discretion, as the endowment grows.

Ricardo C. Carrasco Award for Secondary Career Occupational Therapy Students

This award was established by an Occupational Therapy alumnus to honor Dr. Carrasco's leadership as the second chairperson of the Department of Occupational Therapy. This award is for any students pursuing occupational therapy as a second career.

Occupational Therapy Faculty Award

This award was created in 2007 by the department of Occupational Therapy to recognize significant service, professionalism, and compassion provided to the community, peers, and to the clients served by the occupational therapy profession.

Scott Waddel Scholarship

This scholarship was created in memory of Scott Waddell, a student in the physician assistant class of 2003, by his classmates. Its purpose is to provide financial support to a PA student who emulates the qualities that Scott possessed.

Donald E. Maner and Carbon T. Stewart Physician Assistant Scholarship Fund

The fund is in memory of Carbon T. Stewart, M.A.R., PA-C, a graduate of the 1974 physician assistant class who passed away in 2012. It provides financial support to an Augusta University physician assistant student who emulates the qualities that Carbon possessed.

National Health Service Corps Scholarship

The NHSC Scholarship Program (NHSC SP) awards scholarships to students pursuing primary health care professions training in NHSC-eligible disciplines in return for a commitment to provide health care to communities in need, upon graduation and the completion of training. In return for each school year, or partial school year, of financial support received, students agree to provide primary health care services for one (1) year at an NHSC-approved site located in a high-need Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA). For the first school year, or partial school year, of support, there is a minimum 2-year service commitment.
