The Department of Psychological Sciences uses the Sona Psychology Research Portal to recruit and manage the participation of the human research subjects that are critical to our research. If you're interested in Psychology, participating in experiments would be a great way to see all the different areas of research taking place in our department.
Students can participate in research to earn Psychological Research Experience credit or extra credit in select psychology courses. Please refer to your Course Outline for details. You must be 18 to participate in research studies. The requirement is intended to demonstrate how empirical research is conducted at Augusta University and is designed to serve as a positive educational supplement to the coursework.
Click the button to create a new participant account in the Sona Psychology Research Portal.
Log on to the website using your Augusta University Single Sign-on SSO Username and Password. Then go to Request Account. Your name, email address, and SSO ID are already filled in and not changeable. Students should complete the remaining information to create an account, including their current course information to ensure they receive credit for participation.
Students can receive additional guidance by looking at the following video.
A Note About Participation: A key goal of participating is to gain a thorough understanding of experimental research. As a participant, your time is as valuable as that of the researchers and PIs involved in the studies. You are making a significant contribution to the research community within our department and on the Augusta University campus. All participants are expected to behave in a professional manner, show up on time, and provide notice to researchers if they need to cancel their appointment. It is essential for participants to take the experiments seriously and dedicate the necessary effort to the studies.
No Show Policy: If a student fails to show up and fails to provide a reasonable excuse
(unexcused, no-show), they will be barred from further participation in the Sona pool
for the remainder of that course and must complete the alternative assignments instead.
A second unexcused no-show for credit in another course will result in the removal
of the student's Sona privileges for that semester.
