The Department of English and World Languages (EWL) provides students with a liberal arts education that prioritizes the development of humane values and a passion for life-long learning. Our graduates are prepared for diverse, meaningful, and long-lasting careers.
Our students learn to communicate effectively in English and several world languages. They draw on intradisciplinary and interdisciplinary bodies of knowledge to better understand literature, languages, and world cultures. Through both course offerings and co-curricular activities, our programs foster the development of reading, writing, critical thinking, analysis, and research skills.

Training in the humanities transfers into any career path and gives students a competitive
edge in health science and STEM fields. In 2023-24, humanities majors had higher MCAT
scores and admissions rates to US medical schools than biology and health science
majors. Time to add that double major or minor in English/World Languages to your
