Spanish is the second most spoken language in the world (based on number of speakers). It is spoken on four continents as an official or co-official language in over 20 countries, and it is the second most spoken language in the United States.
States such as California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas house over half of the United States’ Spanish speakers, along with cities such New York and the tri-state area, Miami, and Chicago. In these areas, Spanish is essential in many occupations (such as police officers, news anchors, doctors, and judges).
Translators and interpreters are also readily needed in schools, hospitals, and courts.
