Medical College of Georgia Savannah Student Laptop Specifications

These specifications are for accepted or currently enrolled students for the MCG Savannah campus only. Students on the Augusta campus should follow these requirements. University-owned computers should be purchased through the standard procurement process and follow those requirements.

These are the minimum hardware requirements; you may choose to exceed these requirements for a better computing experience. Requirements are based off specifications for testing software as well as known curriculum computing needs. If you have questions about these requirements, please email MCG Savannah IT support at MCGSAVIT@augusta.edu.

About Specifications

Processor

8th generation Intel core i5 or newer, including any Core Ultra processor. 3rd generation AMD Ryzen 5 or newer.

Newer processors are highly recommended. 

Note: Tablet devices, including Surface Pro devices, must include a keyboard and trackpad.

Note: Dual screen ASUS Laptops are not compatible with testing software.

Memory

8 GB minimum
16 GB or higher highly recommended

SSD Size

250 GB minimum

500 GB or larger recommended

Operating System

Windows 11 Home, version 24H2 or 25H2. S Mode is not supported.

Windows 11 Pro is recommended.

Screen

13-inch minimum

Screen resolution of at least 1920 x 1080.

Webcam

720p or higher is required for testing. USB webcams are acceptable.

Headset/Heaphones

Integrated or USB

Network

Ethernet and Wireless
802.11ac required.

802.11ax or 802.11be is highly recommended.

A short CAT 6 Ethernet cable. Most students find three feet to be appropriate without being unnecessarily bulky.

Wired networking is required for certain exams. If your computer does not have a built-in Ethernet port, you will need to purchase an Ethernet network adapter.

* Ethernet network cables can be purchased locally or online at most office and home supply stores, including most supercenters.

Extended Warranty

An extended warranty is not required, but is recommended to ensure you are not without a laptop if yours breaks. AppleCare Plus is recommended for Macs. A 3-year warranty with accidental damage coverage provided by the manufacturer is recommended for PCs.
