In the department’s history that began in 1829, Dr. Lokeshwar is the 20th Chair and is the first woman to serve in the role.

As a basic-translational researcher, Dr. Lokeshwar’s research programs are focused on benign and malignant diseases of the bladder, kidney and prostate with an emphasis on developing biomarkers and targeted treatments.

Dr. Lokeshwar describes the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology as an academic family where transparency, trust, and collaboration are its heart and soul. Every member of the faculty and staff are working toward a common goal of excellence with the tripartite mission of our department in mind - research, education and service to the AU and scientific community. It is indeed an honor and privilege to be a part of the BMB academic family.
