Dr. Lokeshwar came to the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University as Professor
and Chair of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in late 2015. Prior
to joining MCG-AU, she was a tenured Professor at the University of Miami Miller School
of Medicine. In the department’s history that began in 1829, Dr. Lokeshwar is the
20th Chair and is the first woman to serve in the role.
As a basic-translational researcher, Dr. Lokeshwar’s research programs are focused
on benign and malignant diseases of the bladder, kidney and prostate with an emphasis
on developing biomarkers and targeted treatments.
Dr. Lokeshwar describes the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology as an
academic family where transparency, trust, and collaboration are its heart and soul.
Every member of the faculty and staff are working toward a common goal of excellence
with the tripartite mission of our department in mind - research, education and service
to the AU and scientific community. It is indeed an honor and privilege to be a part
of the BMB academic family.
