Greenblatt and Reese Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) provides access to articles, books, and other materials not available from our library or through GIL Express. This service is provided at no cost to Augusta University faculty, staff, and students unless the loaning institution charges $75 or more for any single item.

Looking for a print (physical) book? Try GIL Express first. Gil Express is a service that allows Augusta University patrons to borrow books from other University System of Georgia schools at no charge.

Interlibrary Loan Service FAQs

How long will it take for me to get my items?

ILL articles generally take between 2-5 days to receive. ILL books and other physical materials may take a week or longer, depending on the distance between Augusta University and the lending library.

When is my book due?

The time allowed by the lending library is indicated on a slip attached to the front of the book or other physical item. The loan period varies. It is often two weeks from the date of receipt. You may request a renewal in your ILL account if the lending library allows it. If you have an overdue ILL item, you will not be able to make new ILL requests until the item is returned.

Where do I return ILL books/items?

Return ILL items to the library where you picked them up from.

Why is the item I requested unavailable?

There are times when we are not able to find a library willing to lend a requested item. Items that we may not be able to find include:

  • Articles that exceed the amount we can borrow from a particular journal due to copyright guidelines
  • Dissertations
  • New titles
  • Non-print items (audiovisual material, etc.)
  • Rare items

Many dissertations are available for free through the institutional repository of the school they graduated from. Dissertations can also be purchased through ProQuest Dissertations Express.

Interlibrary Loan Fees

The University Libraries do not charge Augusta University faculty, staff, or patrons to use the Interlibrary Loan Service unless the lending library charges over $75 for their services.

ILL borrowers are responsible for any late or lost item fees that the lending library may charge.
