I have received dual training in basic medical sciences and general dentistry/hospital dentistry. I joined Dental College of Georgia in July 1994 where I am now a tenured professor.

Research Interests
My current research interest relates to determination of the status of glucocorticoid-inducible proteins in non-malignant and malignant human oral lesions. More recent/past research interests have included a) unraveling of novel immune and inflammatory mechanisms in cardiac and renal injury models, b) elucidation of novel immune and inflammatory mechanisms in salivary gland pathology of Sjogren's Syndrome, c) determination of the impact of hypertension and/or diabetes on the kidney and outcome of interventional modalities, d) determination of the impact of hypertension and/or glucose intolerance on the ischemic-reperfused heart and e) elucidation of the role of taurine in the kidney and cardiovascular system in health and disease.
