The Augusta University Literacy Center partners with Books for Shay every year to collect and distribute new and gently used books for k-5 schoolchildren, in honor of Shaylin Foster. Foster’s mother, Chasity is an Augusta University College of Education alum and educator. Shaylin was an avid reader, and her mother wants to encourage that love in other students.
The College of Education provides volunteer support and liaises with local schools to assist in distributing these books to local students. In 2021, Books for Shay collected and distributed more than 5,000 books.
If you are interested in volunteering with Books for Shay, contact Dr. Kristy Brown, Interim Director of the AU Literacy Center, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
