Trauma
The Trauma/Surgical Critical Care section provides extended point-of-care consultations
and acute medical and surgical crisis management on a “24 x 7” basis. Essential to
the level of care we provide as a ACS Level I Trauma Center are our facilities, including a
specialized center with leading-edge technologies crucial to the care of critically
injured patients.
The critical care team is at-the-ready 24/7, armed with a host of resources critical
for treatment of trauma victims, including a state-of-the-art operating room and a
12-bed, specialized intensive care unit. A multidisciplinary approach, led by our
board-certified surgeons, ensures a continuum of care that begins with prevention
and ends with rehabilitation and reintegration into society. We provide care for patients
and their families, who are vital partners in the care and recovery process.
A rapid response team brings critical care expertise to the patient's bedside. This
“ICU without walls” concept improves trauma outcomes.
Trauma is the third leading cause of death overall, and the leading cause of death
among ages one to 44. Studies show that severely injured patients who receive care
at a Level I trauma center have a lower rate of mortality than those receiving care
at a verified trauma center.
