The Emergency Medicine Residency program has a robust conference schedule with heavy emphasis on core Emergency Medicine content. The conferences are designed to ensure that you will possess a superior knowledge base, thus ensuring quality patient care and successful passage of the ABEM Qualifying and Oral Certification Examinations.

Highlights include:

  • Grand Rounds: Occurs every Wednesday from 8:00 - Noon. Content is based on the Rosen's reading curriculum and includes faculty and resident lectures, simulation, and interactive conferences. Regularly occurring topics include Radiology, EKG, and Morbidity and Mortality conferences.
  • Morning Report: Occurs M-F in the ED from 7 AM- 7:15 AM. Format involves board review, including oral cases, and case discussions focusing on actual patients seen in the ED overnight.
  • Journal Club: Occurs monthly either during Grand Rounds or at a faculty member's home. The focus is on reviewing current Emergency Medicine literature that impacts the clinical practice of Emergency Medicine.
  • Procedure Laboratories: Residents participate in cadaver labs and porcine labs on a regular basis. The labs provide a unique opportunity to learn high acuity, low volume procedural skills including transvenous cardiac pacing, thoracotomy, cricothyroidotomy, etc.
  • Ultrasound: Monthly ultrasound lecture followed by hands-on learning led by fellowship trained ultrasound faculty.
  • Monthly Procedure Lab: Procedure lab by core faculty covering procedures such as lumbar punctures, intubation, chest tubes, central line placement, and many more which include hands-on models and learning.
