Recognizing the growing prevalence of mental health-related concerns, the Augusta University Medical Center Emergency Department offers a unique and newly established Emergency Psychiatry Service.

The service is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by psychiatry residents and board-certified psychiatrists to provide efficient acute mental healthcare.

The focus of visits includes evaluation and treatment in collaboration with emergency medicine providers and facilitation of ongoing care for patients with behavioral health needs.

A 9-Bed Behavioral Health Unit housed within the emergency department offers quiet and privacy from the otherwise busy atmosphere of the department.

Child and Adolescent patients and families are seen within the Pediatric Emergency Department at the Children’s Hospital of Georgia.

With psychiatric inpatient hospital beds in high demand with long waits, the Emergency Psychiatry Service offers rapid assessment and treatment, improved collaboration with patients and their families, and more streamlined care delivery.
