The Department of Artificial Intelligence & Health at Augusta University is dedicated to advancing the integration of AI, data science, and digital innovation in medicine and public health.

Established within the Medical College of Georgia, the department focuses on using intelligent technologies to improve patient outcomes, support clinical decision-making, and enhance health system efficiency.

Under the leadership of Dr. Jeff Talbert, an accomplished researcher and Georgia Research Alliance Eminent Scholar, the department fosters interdisciplinary collaboration across healthcare, computing, and data analytics. Its mission is to prepare the next generation of physicians and scientists to lead in an era where artificial intelligence plays a critical role in transforming health care delivery and research.

1. Translational Research & Innovation

  • Develop AI tools that address real-world clinical, basic science, and public health challenges.

2. Education & Workforce Development

  • Work with current degree programs and certificates to build AI and Health content.
  • Integrate AI literacy into medical and health sciences curricula, continuing education.

3. Ethics, Equity & Governance

  • Lead in the development of ethical frameworks for AI in healthcare. 

4. Health System Integration

  • Partner with the health system's IT, quality , and innovation teams to co-develop solutions.

5. Community & Industry Engagement

  • Build partnerships with tech companies, patients, and public health agencies.
