Black Men of MCG (BMMCG)
Our goals include:
- Building a community & fostering relationships between Black male medical and pre-medical students with AU faculty
- Enhancing educational, economic, and community service opportunities for all members as well as those who believe in the purpose of this organization
- Increasing diversity in medicine
- Ensuring the success of black male MCG students during and after medical school.
Why is our Organization a necessity?
For newborns born to Black mothers, a study found that death rates were far higher when the physician delivering and caring for the newborn was White.
When Black newborns are cared for by Black physicians, the mortality penalty they suffer, as compared with White infants, is halved,
Only about 5.7% of physicians in the United States identify as Black or African American,...
- In 1978, 1,410 Black males applied to medical school.
- In 2020, only 1,457 applied.

That's an only a 3% increase in applicants from 1978 to 2020.

Mission: Through community service, engagement, and service, Empower Clinic is impassioned to the eliminate health disparities present in underserved communities by providing inclusive, equitable health services and education.
