Clinical Laboratory Sciences

Clinical laboratory scientists, also known as medical laboratory scientists and medical technologists, are vital members of the health care team who perform the tests that inform the diagnoses and help direct the treatments.

Nuclear Medicine Technology

A nuclear medicine technologist uses cutting-edge technology to assist physicians in diagnosing and treating disease.

Radiation Therapy

Radiation therapists deliver hands-on treatment directly to cancer patients through the use of high-energy ionizing radiation.

Health Services

Health services managers, also called health care executives or health care administrators, plan and direct medical and health services for a variety of different areas.

Health Information Administration

Heath information professionals are responsible for managing and protecting personal health information and serve as advocates of the patient-provider relationship.

Respiratory Therapy

The coronavirus pandemic has showed the critical need for respiratory therapists. Respiratory Therapists are experts with treating diseases and operating life-supporting technologies.

The Department of Allied Health Professions is committed to the tenants of the AU Strategic Plan's five priorities of discovery, learning, student success, community and stewardship, as well as its three interwoven priorities of innovation, engagement, and ASB - access, success, and belonging.

Briefly, our objectives to meet these priorities are as follows:

Learning

Allied Health Professions students are our number one priority. Our learning objective is to provide excellence in health science education to meet the health care needs of Georgia and beyond. The Allied Health Profession programs provide exceptional, innovative learning experiences allowing students to become highly qualified and diverse as healthcare professionals. All our programs strive to maintain national accreditation to ensure students have the best opportunity for learning

Discovery

Our faculty and students are given the opportunities to collaborate in discovery as part of the Augusta University research culture. The AHP department supports applied health science research in clinical and community health environments. In addition, faculty participate in collaborative discovery via the scholarship of teaching and learning pathways.

Service

Students and faculty in the Allied Health Profession programs have opportunities to engage in service through community outreach activities that impact the health and well-being of the rural and underserved populations in Georgia and beyond.
