Clinical Education

By the end of the final clinical course, we expect that learners will be functioning on the level of an entry-level physical therapist. Augusta University is proud of the high-quality clinical education offered through our Doctor of Physical Therapy program.

What is Clinical Education?

Clinical education experiences are designed and planned to allow learners to demonstrate mastery of the program's expectations for clinical performance. Learners are required to seek assignments that will ultimately provide them with the education and experience they need to function as entry-level practitioners working with clients across the lifespan and continuum of care.

Second Year

Second-year learners will participate in an eight-week full-time clinical experience during their second year's fall (4th) semester. The focus of this clinical experience is evaluation and intervention techniques used in the management of musculoskeletal conditions.

Third Year

Third-year learners will participate in two full-time clinical education experiences scheduled during the fall semester (7th) for 12 weeks and spring semester (8th) for 12 weeks. The expectation is that students will progress toward greater independence and improved consistency and efficiency with performance in increasingly complex environments and with increasingly complex patient/client problems.
