The Two Certificates

Media Production Certificate

The Media Production Certificate is designed for Communication majors who wish to develop production skills in various forms of media. The certificate is also open to nonmajors and continuing education professionals.

A grade of C or better is required in all courses. To earn the certificate, students must complete these requirements:

Three required courses (9 hours)

  • COMM 2010 Media Literacy
  • COMM 3030 Audiovisual Media Production
  • COMM 4000 Media Law and Ethics

 

Two elective courses (6 hours) from this list:

  • AIST 2220 Introduction to Web Development
  • COMM 3020 Advanced Media Writing
  • COMM 3120 Television Production
  • COMM 3320 Digital Editing
  • COMM 4300 Visual Storytelling
  • COMM 4400 Media Editing and Production
  • ENGL 3660 Creative Nonfiction

Public Relations Certificate

The Public Relations Certificate is designed for Communication majors who wish to develop skills in the field of public relations. The certificate is also open to nonmajors and continuing education professionals.

A grade of C or better is required in all courses. To earn the certificate, students must complete these requirements:

Five required courses (15 hours)

  • COMM 2000 Writing for Communication Professionals

  • COMM 2010 Media Literacy

  • COMM 3220 Public Relations Writing

  • COMM 3600 Public Relations Practices

  • COMM 4320 Public Relations and Social Media Campaigns
