Each year, the Department of Art and Design brings professional artists, designers, scholars and engaging leaders from an array of fields to interact with our students. These professionals include those of international acclaim such as Kara Walker, James Elkins, and Jiri Rosiki, to regionally and locally known creative individuals who inspire our students. While on campus, they interact with students through lectures, workshops and critiques to help students define their unique path in the contemporary world of art and design.
In addition to lectures and studio visits typical to art departments, we also host a series of interactive talks called LASER (Leonardo Art Science Evening Rendezvous) Talks. These events bring experts from the arts and sciences together to promote collaboration between those fields. LASER Talks are sponsored by Leonardo: The International Institute for the Arts, Sciences and Technology. As a LASER affiliate, Augusta University is now associated with the international network of institutions engaged in the arts and sciences to include the University of California, Berkeley; the National Academy of Sciences, DC; University of Westminster, London; University of Applied Science, Zurich.
