Message from the Program Director

Dr. Alyce Oliver

We are delighted that you are considering advancing your training in Internal Medicine at the Medical College of Georgia (MCG). Our program stands out as a distinguished medium-sized academic center that offers an exceptional combination of ambulatory and inpatient training. This diverse approach is designed to prepare our residents for successful careers in various fields, including primary care, hospital medicine, and a broad range of subspecialties. Our residents benefit from a comprehensive education that not only sharpens their clinical skills but also provides a strong foundation for pursuing prestigious fellowship opportunities. Our extensive fellowship options at MCG are complemented by a proven track record of residents securing competitive fellowships.

At MCG, we pride ourselves on fostering a collegial and supportive environment. Our faculty members are known for their approachability and dedication to resident education, ensuring a nurturing and enriching learning experience. Wellstar MCG Health, a key regional tertiary care hospital, serves as a safety net facility for the eastern half of Georgia and the western part of South Carolina. Additionally, the Augusta VA is among the largest in the nation, further enhancing our residents' exposure to a diverse range of patients and complex pathologies.

What truly distinguishes our program is the exceptional quality of our residents. Our trainees come from over 11 states and 7 countries, bringing a wealth of perspectives and experiences to our community. This diverse and supportive cohort is actively engaged in the ongoing enhancement of our curriculum, services, and benefits. Residents are frequently described by patients as "friendly," "professional," and "compassionate," and they thrive in a vibrant social environment outside of their clinical responsibilities.

We are excited about the prospect of you joining our dynamic and forward-thinking community. We look forward to the opportunity to work together to advance patient care and continue our commitment to excellence in resident education.

Please let us know if you have an interest in our program. The best way to get a feeling for our program is to see it for yourself!
