Dr. Byrd attended the University of South Carolina for his undergraduate education, graduating with Honors from the Honors College and a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He then attended the Medical University of South Carolina, where he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha and received the Henry Tracy Ivy Award. He then completed his residency training in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at MUSC before pursuing a 2-year fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh in Head and Neck Oncology and Skull Base surgery. During this time he also completed the University of Pittsburgh's Certificate in Clinical Research program. Dr. Byrd joined the faculty at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University in 2014 as an Assistant Professor. Since joining the faculty he has been promoted to Associate Professor and serves as Chief of Head and Neck Surgery, and has a joint appointment in the Department of Neurosurgery.
