The Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University seeks to matriculate a diverse class of exemplary medical students who will meet the healthcare needs of Georgia and beyond. Our students represent MCG’s core values of collegiality, compassion, excellence, inclusivity, integrity and leadership. MCG is a 4-year medical curriculum with a 3-year option for select students. In certain circumstances due to significant personal hardships, a medical student may need to request transfer to another medical school after completing key components of the curriculum. MCG recognizes extenuating circumstances and will consider requests for transfer or transfer with advanced standing from students enrolled and in good standing at an LCME-accredited medical school on a case-by-case basis in situations of personal hardship or other compelling circumstances.
The Medical College of Georgia will consider requests for transfer into phase two of the pre-clerkship curriculum or transfer with advanced standing into the beginning of the clinical curriculum on a case by case basis, contingent on class space availability. Acceptance decisions will be made at the discretion of the MCG admissions subcommittee with input as appropriate from the Curriculum Office, the Office of Student Affairs, and the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs. Transfer students are considered with the same rigor by the subcommittee as those applying for entry into the first year. All decisions by the admissions subcommittee are final and cannot be appealed. Acceptance will be contingent upon stipulations outlined by the subcommittee. Given MCG’s accelerated pre-clerkship curriculum, transfer acceptance is primarily considered for students entering the beginning of the clinical years (advanced standing). Transfer into phase two of the pre-clerkship curriculum is considered on a case by case basis and academic comparability of completed curriculum components must be reviewed and approved by MCG’s Office of Academic Affairs. Any student accepted for transfer or transfer with advanced standing must be willing to be placed on a regional clinical campus and campus preference cannot be guaranteed.
Students should contact the Office of Admissions at mcgadmissions@augusta.edu for further information.
