The 2026-2027 Application Cycle

MCG participates in the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS), a centralized application service administered by the AAMC Association of American Colleges.

U.S. citizen or permanent resident

You must be either a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident of the U.S. with a valid, permanent resident card to be offered acceptance.

MCAT score of 496 or higher

Medical College Admissions Test: *Given the highly competitive nature of the applicant pool, applicants with GPAs less than 3.0, or MCAT scores less than 496, are not considered competitive for interview.

AMCAS Application Opening

Applications for the Medical College of Georgia's Class of 2031 officially open through AMCAS on Tuesday, May 5, 2026. For more information, visit: www.aamc.org/amcas.

Primary & Secondary Applications

Primary applications will be processed in the AMCAS office and then forwarded to the medical school(s) of the applicant’s choice. Upon receipt of the primary application, MCG will send a secondary application to applicants. MCG does not charge an additional application fee in addition to the AMCAS fee.

AMCAS applications for admission are available on the AAMC’s website. This website provides application instructions and more information regarding the application process.

Prerequisites

Biology

One academic year of Biology or Zoology with lab during college.

Chemistry

One academic year of Chemistry during college. One semester must be organic chemistry and one semester must be biochemistry.

Physics

One academic year of physics with two semesters of lab. AP credit may be used to place out of this requirement.

Statistics, Probability or Biostatistics courses that have a STAT or MATH course number will automatically meet this requirement. Other courses that have a different prefix must be approved as equivalent by the undergraduate institution where the course was taken through the Pre-Med or Pre-Health advisor. If such an advisor is not available, the approval may be granted by any Math or Science chair at the institution. AP credit may be used to place out of this requirement.

Additional Coursework Information

  • Applicants must have earned a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university prior to matriculation. The Medical College of Georgia does not require a specific major or area of study, provided all the required prerequisite coursework are completed.
  • International applicants, as well as U.S. citizens, must have completed at least the last two years of their undergraduate or graduate education in a regionally accredited* U.S. or Canadian institution.
  • All non-U.S. coursework must be evaluated by Josef A. Silny & Associates, a company that offers foreign credential evaluation and translation. Please be sure that your evaluation includes the U.S. equivalency of the degree you earned at your international university.
  • Applicants enrolled in a graduate degree program must complete all requirements of their graduate degree prior to enrolling in medical school.

*Accredited by the appropriate regional agency for colleges and schools, i.e., the equivalent of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.  Check out the Council for Higher Education Accreditation for more information.

Notes Regarding Prerequisites

  • One academic year is equal to two semesters, three quarters, or one semester and two quarters.
  • Advanced Placement (AP) credits, as outlined above, may be used for non-biology and non-chemistry courses, if they are accepted by the college/university that the applicant attended, and the credits appear on the official transcript.

  • Letter grades are preferred. Pass/Fail is acceptable if the coursework was completed at a regionally accredited institution.
  • Students must have completed, or be enrolled in, all prerequisite courses by January of the planned matriculation year. Special permission may be granted on a case-by-case basis by the Office of Admissions to complete the courses in a spring or summer semester, ending no later than July of the planned matriculation year.

MCAT Guidelines

Letters of Recommendation

All applicants are required to submit at least three, current letters of recommendation through AMCAS. The Admissions Committee will not review an applicant's file without having received all three current letters of recommendation. These can include letters from science professors or a Pre-Health Advisory committee (if applicable) and/or personal references. It is strongly recommended that one of the personal recommendations comes from a physician who can speak toward the student's clinical exposure/experience.

Clinical Exposure

The MCG Admissions Committee expects applicants to complete a minimum of 200 hours of clinical experience. Clinical exposure includes direct observation of or interaction with patients across a variety of healthcare settings. These experiences are critical for helping applicants gain a realistic understanding of the practice of medicine, develop comfort in clinical environments, and also confirm their commitment to a medical career.

Additional Admissions Considerations

The MCG admissions committee evaluates each applicant holistically, in the context of their file. We adhere to the AAMC experience, attributes, and metrics model for admission to qualified students who align with MCG’s mission.
