Rev. Arnold McKinney had a vision to assist individuals struggling with access to affordable, quality health care.
Through the efforts of the Ware County Coalition Board, the Macedonia Baptist Church, the Ware County Health Department, and other community organizations and individuals, Rev. McKinney was able to receive a program planning grant from the Department of Health and Human Service in October 1994 and In March 1995, to develop and open the FQHC, McKinney Medical Center (MMC), formerly known as Ware County Family Practice. The main MMC office is in Ware County, located in Waycross, Georgia, with offices in the surrounding counties of Brantley, Charlton, Camden, and Bacon Counties.
MMC’s Mission is “to work in collaboration with all of its communities to provide excellent health care and preventive services to the uninsured, under-insured, and insured populations” of the region. The MMC physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, other providers, and staff provide and facilitate the delivery of comprehensive primary care services to communities challenged by logistical and socioeconomic factors. These services include Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Women’s Health, contracted Pharmacy, Mobile Health, and Dentistry.
MMC is a private non-profit Federally Qualified Health Center recognized as a Level 3 National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH), which promotes high-quality care standards using systematic, patient-centered, coordinated, team-based care that supports access, quality assessment and improvement, and patient involvement.
McKinney Medical Center’s (MMC) clinical platforms will provide multiple learning opportunities for a variety of required and elective clinical experiences for students as a Medical College of Georgia (MCG) FQHC Educational Affiliate. These learning opportunities will be supervised by members of MMC’s physician staff who hold MCG Community Clinical Faculty appointments and facilitated by others in the interprofessional team of clinical providers
