Established in 1992, South Central Primary Care, Inc. (SCPC) is a 501c3, non-profit Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) with a network of 12 clinical sites serving the communities of Irwin, Ben Hill, Coffee, Berrien, Lowndes, Cook and Atkinson counties. SCPC is governed by a Board of Directors made up of local community members who are also active patients of the center.
SCPC’s mission is to develop and maintain a healthcare delivery system relevant to the needs of the people in their service region. They promote health education and health maintenance through their comprehensive primary care disease prevention, detection and management services using an interprofessional team of health care providers that include physicians and nurse practitioners. Their services are delivered in a high-quality, caring, and efficient manner regardless of patients’ ability to pay. The services provided include Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Behavioral Health, Farmworkers’ Health and School-Based Health. A Mobile Health Unit is employed to facilitate health services and education.
The vision of South Central Primary Care is to be the provider of choice for all individuals who seek their services by providing access to quality healthcare that is affordable, effective, and efficient. Their interprofessional team-based approach to the delivery of” Whole Person” continuous care is the basis for their recognition as a Patient Centered Medical Home by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality by demonstrating comprehensive, coordinated, accessible, and safe patient care with continuous quality assessment and improvement.
SCPC’s interprofessional comprehensive primary care clinical settings provide multiple learning opportunities for MCG students to experience and participate in the delivery of care to underserved communities and populations. As an MCG FQHC/CHC Educational Affiliate, they will provide a variety of student required and elective educational opportunities under the supervision of physician members of their staff who also serve as MCG Community Clinical Faculty members.
